Seeing Blue, Queensbury High School’s art and literary magazine, has received the rank of “Excellent” in the 2023 NCTE Recognizing Excellence in Art and Literary Magazines program by the National Council of Teachers of English.
This year, schools in 46 states and five countries nominated 375 student magazines from middle school, high school and higher education.
The REALM program publicly recognizes excellent literary magazines produced by students with the support of their teachers. REALM is designed to encourage all schools to develop literary magazines that celebrate the art and craft of writing. Schools in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, U.S. territories, Canada and American schools abroad are eligible to nominate magazines.
Ten years ago, students at Queensbury High School started a literary magazine with the mission to provide a place to showcase the feelings and thoughts that often go unnoticed.
Seeing Blue student editors in 2023 were Dorothy France-Miller and Rider Lee. Kerri Bundy and Jackie Foster serve as faculty editors.
“We are very proud of the writers and artists at Queensbury High School who had the courage to share their voices,” Bundy said. “We are so grateful for the staff of the magazine who provide the place for those voices to be heard.”
The National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) is devoted to improving the teaching and learning of English and the language arts at all levels of education. It is the nation’s oldest organization of preschool through graduate school literacy educators.
