Gwynne Cosh was recently named School Library System Administrator of the Year by WSWHE BOCES. Cosh, the principal at the William H. Barton Intermediate School, accepted her award June 6 at the Ballard Road Conference Center in Wilton.
Cosh was nominated for the award by WHBI librarian Alicia Fazio, who wrote a nomination letter praising Cosh’s backing and support of the school library.
“Everyone in the world of libraries knows there are a lot of new challenges and issues arising surrounding content and intellectual freedom,” Fazio wrote in her nomination. “Now more than ever, it’s important that administrators support and believe in their libraries and librarians. Gwynne Cosh is one such administrator, and I’m grateful every day to have her in my corner.”
Fazio said Cosh places just as much importance on the library classroom as she does the general education classrooms, but also appreciates the uniqueness of the position. Cosh also understands the importance of the library’s physical space, Fazio wrote.
“Over the last few years,” Fazio continued, “Gwynne has turned my ideas about flexibility and collaboration into a completely transformed library.”
