Queensbury Elementary School students welcomed more than 50 veterans to their annual Veterans Day Ceremonies on Friday, Nov. 8. All of the veterans were family members of students in elementary school.

“Every year we celebrate this important holiday with all of our students to really teach them the true meaning of what it means to serve our country,” said QES Principal Jessica Rossetti. “Our goal here at QES is of course to teach our students the academic skills that they need for when they’re older, but equally as important is our character education program, and teaching them service and giving to others and gratitude.”

In two different ceremonies, the veterans introduced themselves and answered students’ questions about their time in the service and listened to the students sing songs.

“Our hope is on Monday and all the Veterans Days to come,” Rossetti said, “our boys and girls here in this audience can remember these assemblies and really put faces to names and know what it really means to recognize our veterans on this important day.”
