Student-athletes and their parents on signing day.

Three Queensbury High School student-athletes committed to playing athletics at the collegiate level on National Letter of Intent Signing Day on Wednesday, Nov. 13.

“Today is a culmination of an awful lot of hard work and dedication in their respective sports,” said Richard Keys, the director of Physical Education, Health and Athletics at Queensbury Union Free School District.

Liam Davidson will run on the cross country team at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, an NCAA Division I school. The Section 2 boys cross country champion plans to study civil engineering at college.

“I chose UMass Amherst because it was the best fit for me academically and athletically,” said Davidson, who thanked his cross country and track and field coaches for their support.

Vivian Povak will be on the rowing/crew team at Robert Morris University, an NCAA Division I college in Pennsylvania. Povak, who rows for the Saratoga Rowing Association, will be studying early childhood education.

Jack Dickerson will play lacrosse at St. Thomas Aquinas College, an NCAA Division II school in Sparkill, New York. He also plans to play club hockey at the college, where he will study physical education.

“I would like to thank Coach Orr, Coach Williams, Coach Martin, Coach Jones, everyone for helping me get where I am,” Dickerson said.

The students then signed their letters of intent as their family members, friends and coaches watched. Keys applauded the students’ ability to manage their time and balance their academics, athletics and social lives. He also lauded the parents for instilling in their children those skills and values.

“There’s no question in my mind how successful you’re going to be in whatever it is that you choose to pursue going forward,” Keys said.
