Queensbury High School senior Vivian Povak took third place at the 2025 NYS SkillsUSA Area 3 competition on March 19.

The 2025 NYS SkillsUSA Area 3 Competitions were held at Capital Region BOCES and SUNY Schenectady Community College, where students from the F. Donald Myers Education Center and Southern Adirondack Education Center showcased their skills and talents.

Vivian, who studies early childhood education at WSWHE BOCES, won third place in the employment application process category.

This prestigious event brought together the top competitors from technical schools across northeastern New York. In addition to WSWHE BOCES, students from Capital Region BOCES, Champlain Valley Educational Services, and Questar III also participated in the regional competition.

The SkillsUSA competitions assess students’ proficiency in their respective fields of study, including criminal justice, cosmetology, HVAC-R, advertising design, food preparation, carpentry, welding, auto repair, first aid/CPR, and much more.

Additionally, students are evaluated on essential workplace skills such as public speaking, interview techniques and presentation abilities. Each competition involves a timed assignment, and the contests are judged by leaders from various industries.
