The Queensbury Union Free School District Board of Education intends to appoint Amanda Denno to the position of principal at the William H. Barton Intermediate School.

Denno currently serves as the associate principal at Queensbury High School. She served as the assistant principal at the intermediate school from 2019 to 2022 and was a classroom teacher at WHBI for 10 years before that.

“Amanda has been an amazing asset to the district for a very long time,” said Superintendent of Schools Kyle Gannon. “We are truly excited to have her lead the Barton building. I know the students, faculty and staff are thrilled to have her back.”

Denno received her Bachelor of Science degree in special education and elementary education from SUNY Plattsburgh in December 2008. She earned a master’s in special education and inclusion from SUNY Albany in May 2013 and her Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Leadership from SUNY Plattsburgh in May 2019. She completed the state Superintendent Development Program in November 2024 and holds several state certifications.

In her new role, Denno will be responsible for the educational leadership and curriculum development at WHBI. She will utilize her leadership, supervisory and administrative skills to promote the educational development of each student in the building, which houses students in grades 3-5.

Denno said she is eager to bring her leadership experience and passion for education to this new role.

“I’m truly honored and thrilled to step into the role of principal at WHBI,” Denno said. “Returning to this incredible school community feels like coming home. I look forward to building strong, meaningful relationships with our dedicated faculty and staff, and most importantly, connecting with our amazing students. Together, we’ll continue to grow, learn, and create a supportive and inspiring environment for all.”

Denno, who lives in Corinth with her husband and son, starts Sept. 1.
