The Queensbury High School Class of 2024 participated in the annual Senior Walk and Senior Give Back Day on Friday, May 31. In matching T-shirts, the seniors took one last walk around Queensbury Elementary School, where they were cheered on by the current students in the building, which houses universal prekindergarten through grade 3.
QES students lined their path cheering and high-fiving the soon-to-be graduates as they said one last goodbye to their childhood and some of the teachers they had in their earliest years at Queensbury. The Senior Walk has been a tradition at Queensbury since 2016.
Following the walk, the Queensbury seniors volunteered their time to work in the community, volunteering at at number of locations, including the Glens Falls Senior Center, Gurney Lane, the Hyde Collection, Hovey Pond, South Queensbury Volunteer Fire Co., Southern Adirondack Independent Living, The Glen at Hiland Meadows, Warren County Historical Society, the YMCA, Glens Falls Elks Lodge, Queensbury EMS, Chapman Historical Museum, Our Lady of Annunciation Church, Queensbury Central Vol. Fire Co., Queensbury United Methodist Church, the Warren County Department of Public Works, Warren County Meals on Wheels, the Little League fields on Queensbury’s school campus, and Queensbury Elementary School’s Grade 2 STEM Day.
For a second year, a group of students partnered with the Warren County Department of Public Works to clean up the Glens Falls Watershed property between Peggy Ann and Potter roads in the town of Queensbury. This is part of a joint effort between the city of Glens Falls, the town of Queensbury and the Queensbury Union Free School District to maintain and enhance the property.
The day ended with a barbecue and yearbook distribution. The yearbook was dedicated to high school social studies teacher Michael Burns, who is retiring this year.
