People at the Q-munity bus last summer.

The Queensbury Union Free School District will be parking its blue Q-munity bus in different neighborhoods around the town of Queensbury throughout the month of July in an effort to maintain the strong partnership between the school and the Queensbury community.

The repurposed school bus is equipped with state-of-the-art furnishings, white boards with dry erase markers, OSMO tablets that merge tactile exploration with innovative technology, and hands-on learning materials for number and math learning. The bus also has Wi-Fi, a TV with an HDMI cable, a Chromebook, a microphone and surround sound system, Ozobots, Spheros, screenless coding activities called Indie Cars, giant Jenga, and arts and crafts.

The first stop will be from 1 to 3 p.m. July 8 at the Gurney Lane Recreation Area at 118 Gurney Lane Road, Queensbury. QUFSD administrators will be grilling and serving free hot dogs and hamburgers and offering popsicles for dessert. Visitors are welcome to play yard games or receive 50% off passes to use Gurney Lane’s 6,200-square-foot outdoor swimming pool with 1-meter diving well and slide.

“I love being able to offer our students a chance to interact with their administrators and be able to do different activities during the summertime,” said Superintendent of Schools Kyle Gannon. “That was the whole purpose of establishing a Q-munity bus.”
