Students hold up first place banner.

The sixth-grade team from Queensbury Middle School took first place in the Battle of the Books held at SUNY Adirondack on March 11. More than 640 students on 81 teams competed in this annual event.

Queensbury’s third-, fourth- and fifth-grade teams all made it to the semi-finals.

The students, who started reading in October, read 10 books on their own time and met weekly to discuss the publications and prepare to answer 31 questions about the books. The sixth grade team came in first place with 28 points after winning their first battle and again in the semi-final round.

“They worked so hard and did such an amazing job!” said Tammy Cherry, who coached the sixth-grade team.

The first place team includes: Grace Desjardins, Hannah Elmore, Ryleigh Jobs, Sian MacAlpine, Sasha Orlovsky, Miles Robertson and Malcolm Scherer. For more information about Battle of the Books, go to https://slslibguides.wswheboces.org/sls/botb.
