Twenty-one Queensbury High School students performed in the New York State School Music Association Zone 7 Area All-State Festival on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 17-18 at Proctors Theater in Schenectady. This was the first time the event has ever been held at Proctors.
The QHS students joined a group of 320 of the finest student-musicians from 45 school districts in the Capital Region.
“These are our top students that positively represent the entire Queensbury community,” said Gregory Verheyn, the chairperson of the Queensbury Music Department. “I admire their motivation and dedication to following their dreams. These model students lead by example and raise the bar for all.”
Students are selected to participate through an application and NYSSMA solo audition process. NYSSMA Zone 7 Area encompasses all of Albany, Fulton, Montgomery, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Warren and Washington counties.
The QHS students are from the orchestra, band and choral programs, under the direction of Verheyn, Jim Cirillo and Matt Gaulin, respectively.
The students who participated include:
Symphony Orchestra: Johanna Troelstra, Caitlin Scott, Ruby Janssen, Jay Zhao, Demetria Hendry, Julia Ross, Marina Muldner, Emily Kenny and Patrick Cirillo.
