Teens attend Women in Trades event.

Chrissi Allen, Kiana Cooper, Norah Hunt, Maia Lopez and Annabelle “Max” Martin attended the event at the Southern Adirondack Education Center. The students heard about potential careers in the trades and received hands-on experiences in traditionally male-dominated trades programs like automotive technology, auto body repair, construction, environmental conservation and forestry, heavy equipment operation, HVAC-R, power sports technology, welding, and industrial and performance machining.

The Queensbury girls were able to make a connection between the programs they saw and possible career opportunities, said Colleen Cowper, the chairperson of the QUFSD Counseling Department.

“Exposing students, particularly female students, to the trade industry will only help further empower them to contribute to the global community and hopefully have some fun while doing it,” Cowper said. “We're so fortunate to have such amazing programs at BOCES for our students!”
