Orchestra students at Disney World.

The Queensbury High School Chamber Orchestra traveled to Walt Disney World in Florida over April break. The orchestra participated in a workshop, gave a live performance and enjoyed several days exploring the Disney World theme parks.

The workshop, which was facilitated by a Disney Imagination Campus teaching artist, culminated in a recording of students performing the music along with Disney’s “Fantasia 2000.” The students explored the demands of a studio recording environment and learned what is expected of professional studio musicians.

The orchestra also performed live for an enthusiastic audience at the Waterside Stage in Disney Springs. Selections consisted of several Disney, Pixar and Marvel pieces.

K-12 Music Department chair Gregory Verheyn said he was proud of the high level of musicianship and musical maturity the QHS Chamber Orchestra members consistently display.

“Our orchestra was chosen through a stringent audition and application process,” Verheyn said. “These passionate, high-caliber student musicians experienced real-world performance situations. Connecting school with professional-level experiences is the primary focus of this group!”
