Sixteen Queensbury High School student-artists have been named finalists for the 2024 High School Juried Show with a total of 22 works of art from QHS students.
Their artwork will be on display at The Hyde Collection in downtown Glens Falls through June 2. The 2024 High School Juried Show was adjudicated this year by three local artists and art professionals who live in the region — Rebecca Pelchar, Jade Miner and Alli Lopez.
In total, 261 students from 14 school districts submitted 584 pieces of artwork. Thirty-one QHS students had their work selected with 46 semi-finalist works of art delivered for an in-person final judging round. Ultimately, 16 Queensbury students have their work exhibited.
The 16 finalists include: Elliana Jeppesen, Nathan Reed, Ava Gonroff (3 pieces), Richard Osgood, Evan Gruendle, Penny Osgood, Shea Canavan, Parker Dixon (2), Julian Campopiano (2), Jaonie Quema, Ellie Paigo, Bayley Duffy (2), Zavry Ward, Tanner Roode, Kyla McByrne (2), and Sarah McCray.
“When I create my own works of art, I don't compare what I make to others around me,” said QHS senior Kyla McByrne. “What I make is from personal experiences in my life that I love to share with the world through my creativity. I am so grateful that my artwork was recognized to be shown in the Hyde.”
QHS senior Elliana Jeppesen won the 2024 Curator’s Choice Award for “Color Pencil Jars.” QHS senior Nathan Reed won the 2024 Curator’s Choice Award for “Wrenching.” QHS junior Ava Gonroff won the 2024 Juror’s Choice Award for “Winter’s Coming.”
“I am so thankful to have my work presented with other talented and exceptional artists throughout the region,” Ava Gonroff said. “I hope that my work inspires others as the other local artists have inspired me through the years.”
