Nine Queensbury High School student-athletes signed their letters of intent to play sports at colleges during a spring signing day ceremony Tuesday, May 21.
The ceremony was the culmination of a tremendous amount of work, commitment and dedication for the student-athletes, said Richard Keys, the director of health, physical education and athletics.
“Some of these individuals are still striving to achieve those final high school goals, whether it’s academically or athletically. We have some great sectional competition coming up this week,” Keys said. “However, all of these student-athletes have made the sacrifices to perform at the elite level. They’ve trained, they’ve traveled, they’ve studied, they’ve volunteered, they’ve managed their time appropriately in order to compete at the next level.”
Superintendent of Schools Kyle Gannon urged the students to applaud their parents for driving them thousands of miles to competitions over the years. He pointed out that many of the students also served as captains of their teams.
“That tells you what’s going to happen at the next level,” Gannon said. “There’s a good chance they’re going to be a leader on their next team. That’s a trait you take with you forever.”
The students who signed letters of intent include:
Miranda Habshi, who will run cross country at St. Bonaventure University;
Tekla Fine-Lease, who will play golf at Quinnipiac University;
