Physical education and health teacher Robert Jones received the Dr. John V. Irion Award at the Queensbury High School on Monday, June 24.

Dr. John V. “Jack” Irion was Queensbury’s superintendent for 21 years from 1973-94. He was a devoted fan of Queensbury athletics and highly revered in the Queensbury community. Irion’s son, John Irion, the winningest gridiron coach in Queensbury school history, was on hand to help present the award.

Principal Andrew Snide said that Jones goes above and beyond and truly makes an impact on students’ lives. During a video salute, current and former colleagues and students praised Jones for being a great person who embodies the core values and characteristics that the Irion Award represents. They commended his friendship and dedication to the Queensbury school, community and athletes.

“It’s an honor. I love this place,” said Jones, who was choked up. “Thank you. Words can’t say what it means to me.”
