Queensbury High School has been named a School of Excellence by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association.
This award recognizes school at which 75% or more of their athletic teams achieved scholar-athlete status. To achieve scholar-athlete team status, 75% of the varsity roster must obtain a 90% GPA or higher.
This is Queensbury’s eighth consecutive year as an NYSPHSAA School of Excellence.
“We are extremely proud of our student-athletes’ commitment to their sport and their academics,” said Athletic Director Richard Keys.
Schools can apply for School of Distinction status if 100% of their varsity teams qualify for and receive the Scholar-Athlete team award during their respective sports seasons.
“The efforts made by student-athletes in the classroom are paramount to their success in the athletic arena, and beyond their high school days,” said Dr. Robert Zayas, NYSPHSAA executive director.
The purpose of the School of Distinction and School of Excellence Awards are to unite athletic departments in challenging their teams to achieve a statewide academic honor. This year, 114 schools earned the School of Distinction Award and 226 schools earned the School of Excellence Award.
Winning schools will receive their commemorative awards at their local athletic director workshop this fall. The full list of School of Distinction and School of Excellence Award winners can be viewed by using the links below.
