Follow the yellow brick road to Queensbury High School this spring to see “The Wizard of Oz.”
The musical production will feature the iconic musical score from the 1939 MGM film that starred Judy Garland as Dorothy Gale in this timeless tale in which a Kansas farm girl is swept away by a tornado over the rainbow to the magical Land of Oz.
Queensbury High School Musical students will present this delightful stage adaptation of L. Frank Baum’s beloved tale at 7 p.m. March 14 and 15 and at 2 p.m. March 16 at the high school auditorium.
Director Andrew Terry and musical director Matt Gaulin chose “The Wizard of Oz” to coincide with the 85th anniversary of the movie and the release of the wildly popular “Wicked” movie.
This family friendly show will feature about 50 Queensbury High School students, who will be participating on stage, behind the scenes and in the orchestra pit. Junior Delaney Sano will lead the cast as Dorothy. She will head down the yellow brick road to meet the Wizard, played by senior Quinn Sheloski, with junior Finley Magee as the Scarecrow, junior Adam Spero as the Tinman, and freshman Nick Merzig as the Cowardly Lion.
Junior Carter Stanclift will play the roles of Uncle Henry and the Oz Guard. Junior Margaret Durling will play Aunt Em and Glinda. Senior Jordyn Lott will play Miss Gulch and the Wicked Witch.
Tickets for “The Wizard of Oz” will cost $15 and will go on sale at 10 a.m. Feb. 16 at Cur8.com (formerly ShowTix4U). Tickets are reserved seating for all three shows.
“Families should come see ‘The Wizard of Oz,’” Terry said, “because it is a timeless story that brings hope, joy, and optimism to every generation that watches it.”
