Fifteen Queensbury Middle School students became Student Ambassadors during an induction ceremony the evening of Wednesday, Nov. 1.
“After being recognized and nominated by their teachers as true middle school leaders, they have been entrusted to become lifelong learners in the areas of academics, relationship building and communication,” said Rebecca Sayles, school counselor. “They will represent the Queensbury community with confidence, enthusiasm and, most importantly, Spartan P.R.I.D.E.”
Of the 15 students inducted, there are five sixth-graders, five seventh-graders and five eighth-graders. They will join the current 15 members of the QMS Student Ambassadors Leadership Team.
Carl Aguilar, president of the Queensbury High School National Honor Society, told the students that leaders must possess responsibility and accountability. He reminded the students to stay on track and set realistic and achievable goals for themselves.
“A good leader sees these responsibilities as opportunities, and faces them head on. To be a good leader is to be a responsible person, willing to deal with all your stresses and struggles.”
QMS Principal Nick McPartland thanked Sayles and Amy VanVranken for leading the Ambassadors and the parents and families in attendance.
“Spartan P.R.I.D.E. is an acronym for preparation, respect, integrity, dedication and engagement, and these are traits that our current Student Ambassadors live every single day, and I encourage our new Ambassadors to embody that as well,” McPartland said. “These are traits of leadership, and that’s what our Student Ambassadors are for our building — they’re leaders.”
