Grandparents pose with grandchild.

About 450 grandparents attended the 35th annual Grandparents Breakfast for fifth graders at the William H. Barton Intermediate School on Tuesday, Nov. 28. Grandparents were entertained by band, orchestra and choral students.

This is the last-ever Grandparents Breakfast for these fifth grade students. WHBI Principal Gwynne Cosh called the event bittersweet for grandparents.

“This is probably a tradition or a memory that you have had since your grandchild entered kindergarten here in Queensbury,” Cosh said.

Interim Assistant Principal Tom Martin reminded the fifth graders that they, too, will become grandparents someday. He encouraged the students to spend time with family and to hug their grandparents.

“Cherish these moments with your grandparents,” Martin said, “because they are fleeting.”
