Both Odyssey of the Mind teams from the William H. Barton Intermediate School are headed to the State Tournament on April 13 in Syracuse. The teams qualified for the state competition during the Regional Tournament on March 9 at Glens Falls High School.
The Problem 3 Division 1 (Classics ... Opening Night Antics) team finished in first place. The team met the problem requirements while developing an 8-minute skit, complete with props, scenery, costumes and a theme of “being happy with who you are.”
The team includes fourth graders Griffin Albrecht, Kynlee Keast, Eloise Walajtys and Jonah Zvirzdin. They are coached by Alex Zvirzdin and Tricia Albrecht.
Our Problem 5 Division 1 (Rocking World Detour) team tied for third place, was awarded an OMER Award, and received an invitation to continue on to the State Tournament.
The OMER Award is bestowed on team members who exhibit exceptional skill and talents. Each recipient of an OMER Award receives a special medal.
“This team impressed the judges with exceptional Spartatude behaviors,” said Wendy Single, the club advisor. “Their performance delivered a message of the value of cooperation.”
The team includes fifth graders Hannah Elmore, Molly Kirker, Paisley Seigfried and Abbagayle Tripp as well as fourth grader Amelia Di Bari. The team is coached by Heidi Elmore.
