Foreign exchange students stand in front of flags.

Queensbury Union Free School District is looking for host families for two Global Scholars in need of homes for the 2024-25 school year. The Global Scholars program, which launched in 2018, allows high school-age students from other countries to study at Queensbury High School while living with a host family for either one semester or one academic year.

Host families include their guest scholars in regular family life during mealtimes, outings and vacations, allowing students to experience American culture firsthand. Host families receive a stipend for hosting.

The program is open to international students with an F1 Visa who are between the ages of 14-18, proficient in the English language and successful in completing the application process. Global Scholars live with local host families and attend classes at Queensbury High School. They take classes and participate in fine and performing arts events, sports teams, and exciting extracurricular clubs and activities.

Global Scholars Coordinator Jen Roca said the program facilitates global connections and teaches us that the world is bigger than Queensbury.

"The Global Scholars Program offers a unique opportunity for Queensbury families to experience firsthand the richness of a culture different from their own," Roca said. "It truly creates strong lifelong relationships."

The school district is actively looking for host families for two students, including Marcos from Valencia, Spain, who enjoys participating in triathlons. Marcos wants to join the cross country team as well as the swimming and track teams, and his dream is to become a pilot. The school is also looking for a host family for Hendrick from Oldenberg, Germany, who likes BMX and mountain biking as well as Alpine skiing.
