About 450 grandparents visited the William H. Barton Intermediate School on Tuesday, Dec. 3 for the 36th annual Grandparents Breakfast. The special guests sipped coffee and munched muffins as the fifth graders entertained them with orchestra, band and choral performances.

Grandparents traveled from as far away as the Cayman Islands and London to have breakfast with the fifth grade students.

WHBI Principal Gwynne Cosh spoke about memories of growing up with her grandfather, who cherished what he called “red letter days,” like holidays with his family.

“And even though today isn’t a holiday, this is a special tradition. This is a day that you want to remember,” Cosh said. “This is a red letter day for each and every one of you in here.”
