Queensbury Union Free School District will offer five sections of full-day universal prekindergarten for the 2025-26 school year.

Ninety students will be chosen through a random lottery, which opens on Monday, Jan. 13, 2025 on the district’s website at queensburyschool.org/o/qufsd/page/upk-round-up.

The lottery is available for Queensbury residents turning age 4 on or before Dec. 1, 2025 (with a date of birth between Dec. 2, 2020 and Dec. 1, 2021). Children who are age-eligible to attend kindergarten are not eligible for the UPK program.

“We are extremely proud,” said Superintendent of Schools Kyle Gannon. “We have certified teachers doing an amazing job of establishing a high level of UPK curriculum and culture within each classroom.”

The lottery will close at 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 28, 2025. Parents will be notified via email by March 4 of acceptance to the program or placement on the waitlist. Parents will be made aware of the registration and screening processes once their child's name has been drawn through the lottery.

Queensbury UFSD started its UPK program in 2023. The program has already demonstrated significant success with proven results in both academic achievement and social development, said Queensbury Elementary School Principal Jessica Rossetti.

“Students who went through our UPK program last year are the leaders in their kindergarten classes this year,” Rossetti said. “This success is a testament to the power of early childhood education and the positive impact it has on a child's future.”
