It is maple season, and students at Queensbury Middle School, the William H. Barton Intermediate School and Queensbury Elementary’s universal prekindergarten program sampled the sweet syrup this week in the form of maple yogurt parfaits.
Cold weather at night and warm weather during the day makes maple trees “really, really happy,” chef Steve Sutliff told UPK students on Thursday.
“This time of year is a special time of year,” he said. “The maple sap starts to run out of the maple trees.”
The maple yogurt parfaits featured layers of creamy yogurt, topped with a drizzle of pure maple syrup, and garnished with crunchy granola. The natural sweetness of the maple syrup combined with the tangy yogurt creates a balanced treat. It’s a chance for students to enjoy a sweet treat while still maintaining a well-rounded diet.
